A nice summary of what is corrosion and some ways to prevent it. One issue to consider is the use of sacrificial anodes in water heaters, the anode that works better in hot water service is Magnesium not Zinc. The Zinc alloy at high temperatures and certain water chemistry reverse its potentials and becomes cathodic with respect to steel, so the steel will be corroded.
